The devil is in the detail, even when the OEM is involved

We successfully demonstrated over $1.5million of defects and evidenced that the OEM performed C check was inadequate.

Situation

We were commissioned to conduct a last-minute records review on three aircraft currently with their OEM. The purchaser was happy with the details of the aircraft that had been supplied but wanted to conduct a ‘boots on the ground’ review particularly as one of the aircraft had a recent ‘C’ check.

Solution

On appointment, we flew our most senior type engineer to review the records and the general state of the aircraft. Arriving one day prior to Thanksgiving, and with limited time as a consequence, they were presented with the files including details of the recently performed C check. After conducting a full review of the records, the C check and items such as engine runs it transpired that the aircraft were in a far different condition.

Results

We successfully demonstrated over $1.5million of defects and evidenced that the OEM performed C check was inadequate. The operator successfully negotiated this from the value of the aircraft with the OEM performing the C check, again at no cost to the operator.
